U.S. Navy Submarine Combat Patrol insignia is an original badge manufactured in the U.S.A. in accordance with appropriate U.S. Government specifications. Certified by the U.S. Navy and authorized for wear on all uniforms, except coveralls and camouflage uniforms.

The Submarine Combat Patrol Insignia is a uniform breast pin worn by officers and men of the United States Navy's Submarine Service who have completed combat patrols during declared wars. Authorization for the Submarine Combat Patrol Insignia is given to members regularly assigned to submarine duty after 7 December 1941, who completed one or more wartime combat patrols designated as successful because:

• the submarine sank or assisted in sinking at least one enemy vessel, or
• the submarine accomplished a combat mission of comparable importance.

The Submarine Combat Patrol Insignia is considered a "secondary insignia" and is typically worn in conjunction with a primary warfare badge, such as the Submarine Warfare Insignia.

The pin shows the broadside of a Gato-class submarine. A scroll beneath the submarine holds a place for service stars. Gold stars are mounted on the scroll to indicate each successful patrol subsequent to that for which the original insignia was awarded. Stars may also be placed on the wave area of the insignia. Holes are bored for that purpose. A silver star indicates five successful patrols.
