Original insignia & badges

Military insignia and badges authorized by the United States Armed Forces are issued to soldiers who achieve certain qualifications during both active and reserve duty. Together with military decorations, such badges are authorized for wear on military uniforms.

Badges are divided into breast insignia (usually worn directly above and below the ribbons) and identification badges (usually worn at breast pocket level).

Insignia come in the form of metal pin-on devices worn on formal uniforms and embroidered tape strips worn on work uniforms. The general term "insignia" shall be used to describe both forms. 

The term "badge", although used colloquially to describe any pin, patch or tab, is exclusive to identification badges and authorized marksmanship awards.

Military rank is more than just who salutes whom. Military rank is a badge of leadership. Responsibility for personnel, equipment and mission grows with each advancement.

These insignias and badges may not be worn by unauthorized persons or pinned to civilian clothing unless authorized by the appropriate U.S. military service regulations.

Treat them as unique items in your collection and do not wear them in public unless you have earned the qualification that the badge represents!
