United States Army Rangers or, for short, Rangers is an elite united states army light infantry formation dedicated to special operations around the globe. Today, its battle core consists of three battalions that form part of the 75th Ranger Regiment.
The 1st Ranger Battalion officially began service on 31 January 1974 at Fort Benning, Georgia. The battalion was first used in 1980 in response to the Iranian hostage crisis. The operation was codenamed Eagle Claw. He also participated in operations in Granada, Panama, in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. In December 2001, in response to the events of 9/11, he was sent to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
