Air Force Pilot insignia is an original badge manufactured in the U.S.A. in accordance with applicable U.S. Government specifications.
To receive the United States Air Force Pilot Badge, a soldier must be a graduate of USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) or pilot or helicopter training provided by another military service, provided the training is equivalent to USAF training. The soldier must also be physically qualified in accordance with applicable regulations.
U.S. Air Force badges are uniform items approved by the U.S. Air Force that signify aviation ratings, special skills, professional qualifications, and serve as identifiers for personnel performing specific tasks.
The United States Air Force currently issues several aviation badges, including pilot, combat systems officer, air battle manager, flight surgeon and flight nurse.
Officers wear the basic badge after graduating from technical school (or after attaining a fully qualified AFSC when technical school is not required). Then wear the U.S Air Force Senior Pilot badge after 7 years in the specialty and the U.S. Air Force Command Pilot badge after 15 years in the specialty.
Enlisted wear the basic badge after completing technical school. Then wear the U.S Air Force Senior Pilot badge after award of the 7-skill level, and the U.S. Air Force Command Pilot badge as a master sergeant or above with 5 years in the specialty from award of the 7-skill level.
Other requirements to receive U.S Air Force Senior Pilot insignia include 2000 flying hours or 1300 hours of instructor/first pilot time and 72 months of operational flying experience by the 12th year of aviation service.
