United States Army Rangers or, for short, Rangers is an elite united states army light infantry formation dedicated to special operations around the globe. Today, its battle core consists of three battalions that form part of the 75th Ranger Regiment.
The first branches of so-called rangers were formed at the beginning of the XVII century in North America. These were small light-armed formations of British colonists (mainly pioneers and hunters) designed for irregular battles with indians and French from New France. In 1776, during the American Revolution, the first official branch of the U.S. Army was established, named "rangers", named after its commander called Knolwton's Rangers.
